Treason is the act of betraying one’s country either in an attempt to overthrow a ruling government or by aiding its enemies. It also means showing disloyalty to the ruling government. In various countries, various activities may be considered a treason.
For instance, collaborating with a countries enemies and leaking its secret to them. Sabotaging the good efforts of a ruling government to make it look like it is inefficient and ineffective. These and any other activity which a ruling government is not comfortable with may be considered a treason.
People commit treason for various reasons. For example, an individual or a group can commit treason against a country when they are promised a handsome reward. For some others, a thirst for revenge against a government can lead them to commit treason.
Individuals or groups who are charged, tried for treason and found guilty, could face harsh penalties ranging from prison terms to death.
