Salt is a crystalline compound resulting from a combination of an acid and a base. The common table salt is known as Sodium Chloride. It is found in sea water and it is abundant in nature. Salt is very important part of life. It is an essential ingredient used mainly for seasoning or preserving food.

Furthermore, it helps in the maintaining the fluid balance of the body and for a proper functioning of the nerves and muscles.

However, when more than six grams/one teaspoon/ 2300mg of salt is consumed daily, it can result to health problems. Too much consumption of salt is associated with higher risks of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.

Unfortunately, most of the processed foods that people consume daily are very high in salt content. It is therefore advised that for your optimum health, salt should be consumed in moderation.
