A pseudonym is a name used by someone instead of their real name. It is mostly used by authors. It is also known as a pen name. Pseudonyms are used for several purposes.

pseudonym

In the nineteenth century; when literary work was basically for men, women in the society were not allowed to write or publish any written work. A lot of women adopted pseudonyms; which are male names, to enable them to publish their work.

Again a writer can use a pseudonym when he or she perceives that using their real name may be confused with some other person who is already popular.

The use of pseudonyms can be advantageous. It is used to conceal a writer’s identity in order to maintain privacy. It can also be used when someone has a long name which may be difficult for others to pronounce.

It is not a bad idea to use a pseudonym, however, you have to be sure that it is the right decision for you.
