An evidence is anything plain and clear that you can see, read, experience, which is used to prove that something else is true or exists. An evidence serves as a tool for confirmation or verification of a proposition or belief.
An evidence is used in different ways in different areas of life. In the academic world, a body of evidence is used in research writing or essays to support your argument and as well prove your point to your reader. Again in the health industry, evidence forms the basis on which effective health care is given to patients. Furthermore, lawyers in the law court rely on a body of evidence which is made available to them to support their arguments or claims that a client is either guilty or innocent of any charge against them.
All in all, an evidence is very important in everything you do. It is the strong backup to your claims without which no one might believe you.
