A sinus is an air-filled cavity in a dense portion of the skull bone that is usually linked with the nostrils. When you do not take care of yourself very well, you can develop an infection of the sinus called rhino-sinusitis.

Rhino-sinusitis is an inflammation of the soft tissues lining the sinuses. It results in the buildup of mucus in the sinuses. It is mostly caused by bacteria. It can as well be caused by a virus, pollutants, and fungi.


Some conditions increase the risk of sinusitis. For instance, allergic reactions to pollen and dust, deformation of the bony partition in the nose, growths in the nose that can result in inflammation, and weak immune system.


Some of the symptoms of sinusitis include blockage of the nose, reduced ability to smell things,  discharge from the nose, congestion of the nose, frontal headache, and so on.


Sinusitis can be treated with antibiotics, however, you’ll need to visit a health professional to prescribe the antibiotic that suits you the most.
