Andy Samberg asked for blessing from SNL boss over new sketch show, Party Over Here
The Lonely Island trio aren’t looking for a fight Fox and Andy Samberg are gearing up to launch their own Saturday night late-night variety program, but the former Saturday Night Live comedian told The Hollywood Reporter he has no desire to compete with his alma mater.
Party Over Here will tackle the world of politics and entertainment through various sketches and digital shorts in front of a live audience. Because of how similar the concept of the show is to SNL, the members of The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) wanted to make sure they got the blessing from their former boss and SNL creator, Lorne Michaels.
“We wanted to do something new and exciting and fun but we didn’t want to have any direct conflict," Samberg told The Hollywood Reporter. "We’re not, like, raging war on SNL. That’s still our home and family."
It’s something that Schaffer echoed, adding that they told Fox during negotiation deals that they weren’t going to go up against the variety show giant and would only agree to the series if they ended by 11:30 p.m. ET. Taccone also mentioned that they called up Michaels multiple times to get his blessing before going ahead with the show, which he more than willingly gave them.
While the members of The Lonely Island will remain behind the scenes for the most part, they’ve brought on a fresh crop of comedians to carry the series.
Party Over Here premieres this Saturday, March 12, at 11 p.m. ET on Fox.

‘Consciousness simulator’ Everything lets PS4 players become anything at all
David OReilly’s next art-project-turned-game Artist David OReilly, creator of artsy indie Mountain and the video game featured in 2014 Oscar nominee Her, announced his next game project on the PlayStation Blog: Everything, a game which lets players become … well, everything.
The short trailer above grants a look at the game, which is published by Double Fine Productions; it will launch on PlayStation 4 sometime this year. Yet it’s OReilly’s description of the ambitious idea that’s most intriguing.
“The game lets you see the entire universe from the point of view of the thousands of things in it," he wrote. "In other words, there is no distinction between you and the world, or between a level and a character."
Playable entities run the gamut from equine to celestial and everything in between, OReilly said. Players can even inhabit a paper clip.
The artist compared the game to his previous release, Mountain. That game, in which players controlled a mountain, on iOS, Linux, Mac and Windows PC in 2014. Double Fine served as publisher on that game too, releasing it through the Double Fine Presents label for small indie games.
Outside of gaming, OReilly is known for his distinctive 3D animated shorts, like 2010’s "The External World." He also wrote and directed an episode of Cartoon Network’s hit Adventure Time, "A Glitch is a Glitch," which featured his trademark style.
Learn all about Aurelion Sol, League of Legend’s new dragon champion
A hero with the power of orbiting stars and some strong movement potential Last week, we learned that new League of Legends champ by the name of Aurelion Sol is on the way. Now we have a lot more details on how exactly this character will play.
Over on a new champion reveal page, Riot has put up key art, strategies and ability descriptions for Aurelion Sol.
Perhaps his most distinguishing factor, Aurelion Sol has a passive called Center of the Universe. At all times, he will have three stars orbiting around him. When those stars smash into enemy champions or minions, they’ll take damage. This makes playing as or against Aurelion Sol into a tricky game of picking the right moments to move in and out of range. His W ability, Celestial Expansion, expands that ring of stars, allowing him to hit enemies from farther away and for more damage, although at the cost of mana.
Aurelion Sol also has the potential to stun enemies with his Q, Starsurge, and knock them back with his ultimate ability, Voice of Light. The dragon champion will benefit from some unique movement boosts as well, passively increasing movement speed as he travels in the same direction but losing it when he turns. His E ability, Comet of Legend, will fly the dragon across the map in a straight line, allowing him to get to where he’s needed far faster than the average hero.
Aurelion Sol has some unique and powerful-sounding abilities, but Riot is also quick to note that he’s a relatively weak champion in terms of health and survivability. If assassins characters like Akali get up close, they’ll be able to chew through the dragon’s hit points quickly.
Riot says more information on Aurelion Sol is coming in the next few weeks, though the company has not yet said when he will be officially playable in League of Legends.
Gears of War 4 stars Marcus Fenix’s son in a new cast of three heroes
Meet the three lead actors Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after Gears of War 3, and it features a new trio of protagonists led by JD Fenix, who is the son of legendary soldier Marcus Fenix, reports Game Informer.
Marcus Fenix, of course, was the lead character of Epic Games’ original Gears of War trilogy on Xbox 360. Game Informer describes his son JD as “an idealist who ran away from home at a young age to join the militia only to go AWOL after a classified incident that players will learn more about during the game."
In Game Informer’s coverage trailer for its April 2016 issue — the cover story for which is about Gears 4 — a developer from The Coalition says the game tells the story of "a son of a war hero finding his way in the world." JD Fenix is voiced by Australian actor Liam McIntyre, who is best known for playing the title role in the second and third seasons of Starz’s Spartacus.
The younger Fenix is flanked by characters named Kait Diaz and Delmont "Del" Walker. Diaz is voiced by Laura Bailey, the veteran voice actress known for roles in games such as Tales from the Borderlands and Halo 5: Guardians. According to Game Informer, Diaz grew up as an Outsider — one of the people who don’t live inside the walled city-states that most of the humans on Sera call home.
Walker is voiced by Eugene Byrd, who has acted on television shows such as Bones and starred in last year’s Battlefield Hardline. Game Informer reports that Walker is, like Fenix, a former COG soldier; the orphaned Walker befriended Fenix at boarding school, and followed Fenix’s lead when he deserted the army.
For much more on Gears of War 4, check out Game Informer’s 14-page cover story; the digital version of the April issue is now live. Gears 4 is coming exclusively to Xbox One this holiday season.

A look back at the Hearthstone cards Blizzard has nerfed
From Pyroblast to Shattered Sun Cleric to … almost every rogue card Along with its next expansion and the controversial addition of the new standard format, Hearthstone is set to receive some major downgrades — colloquially referred to as nerfs by the gaming community — to cards from its Classic and Basic sets. These are the first nerfs the game has seen since October of last year, but they’re far from the only nerfs it’s ever received.
In his most recent video, popular Hearthstone streamer and video creator Kripparrian runs down a history of every card update the game has received, starting from early beta. If you weren’t playing back then, the biggest surprise might just be how terribly overpowered the rogue class was in general.
Kripp also runs down a few notable buffs that some classes or cards received during those early days to help raise their power level and make them competitive. For example, did you know that at one point, priests didn’t even have the Shadow Word: Death spell available to them? Instead, they had a card called Fade that would give all minions taunt and draw a card for two mana. It wasn’t very good in the game’s meta at the time, though Kripp notes that it would probably be a great card these days.
Kripp misses a few nerfs from Hearthstone’s history — most notably an increase in the cost of the Leeroy Jenkins legendary to stop a combo rogue deck that had absolutely dominated the game for months — but he hits many of the most important and interesting developments.

Disney announced it would be bringing the characters back last February, with a goal to premiere the series sometime next year on its Disney XD channel.

Polygon Backstory episode 4: Night In The Woods story writer Bethany Hockenberry
How growing up in rural Pennsylvania influenced a stylish indie game Polygon Backstory is a podcast that celebrates conversations about the games we play.
This week my guest is Bethany Hockenberry, story writer for Night In The Woods, an indie game coming to Linux, Mac and Windows PC as well as the PlayStation 4 later this year.
Night In The Woods is the story of a cat named Mae, who fails out of college and comes back to live in her home town. The game is set in a crumbling, former mining village called Possum Springs. As it turns out, Possum Springs has a lot in common with the place where Bethany grew up in rural Pennsylvania.

Harmonix parts with Mad Catz, signs new co-publisher for Rock Band
Teases ‘major’ feature update for Rock Band 4 Rock Band developer Harmonix has signed a new co-publishing agreement with Performance Designed Products — the video game accessory maker more commonly known as PDP — for future Rock Band 4 and Rock Band VR products.
Harmonix was previously working with financially beleaguered accessory maker Mad Catz. Harmonix and Mad Catz had worked together since 2010, when the accessory maker produced the 102-button, six-string pro guitar controller for Rock Band 3. Mad Catz later served as publisher of Rock Band 3 and was co-publisher of Rock Band 4.
In a statement, Harmonix said PDP will help create new hardware for a “major Rock Band 4 feature update" later this year.
"As we look to fully achieve our goal of creating this console generation’s category-defining music gaming platform, we need to partner with a truly world-class manufacturer that can operate at the scale that Rock Band requires," said Steve Janiak, Harmonix CEO, in a release. "PDP has a well-deserved reputation for innovation, customer satisfaction, and quality. They have the logistical and technical expertise to support Harmonix’s ambitious plans for the future of Rock Band, with new hardware alongside a major Rock Band 4 feature update coming this Fall." "Rock Band is the premier music platform for console players," said Chris Richards, CEO of PDP, in a release. "This will be a great partnership and gaming fans should get ready to experience new, innovative hardware products for Rock Band 4 and Rock Band VR."
Harmonix is currently working to bring Rock Band 4 to Windows PC. For more on the console versions of Rock Band 4, read Polygon’s review.
